Seriously, I mean, I know babies lose their newborn hair but doesn't it usually happen in the back where they lay on it? I don't repeatedly rub her head so I just don't get the receding hairline.

Regardless of her 'do (and the stink eye she's giving me) I think she's super cute. I can't believe a month has gone by already. She's gotten SO much bigger and she's so much more alert. She'll sit on her play mat and look at the things Athena shows her, so Athena is totally loving the interaction.

She's a TOTALLY different baby than Athena was, and this was evident from birth on. Zofia came out quietly, sounds like a kitten when she cries, and will sleep for 3 1/2 hours at a time. Athena came out SCREAMING and didn't stop for like 4 months and never slept for longer than 2 hours until she was 6 months old. They appear to be similar in the clingyness department though. We's got cuddly kids.

I'm going to love watching these two grow together :)

I think almost everyone has seen the pictures of my little precious, but I like to show her off everywhere. It's my God-given right.

This birth was SO different from Athena's. I actually got to go into labor on my own! I woke up at 6am on June 14th with a HORRID stomach ache. I chilled on the couch for a while figuring it was indigestion from the MASSIVE amount of food I ate around midnight... then I noticed that the pain was coming in weird waves. I called my husband to tell him labor may be a possibility, and then called my sister in law to see what labor felt like. Jill and I concluded that I wasn't really in labor since I was still playing with Athena and doing housework, so I went about my business. My mom, on the other hand, did not agree with us and thought I should head to the hospital since the waves were coming every 5 minutes at that point. I did NOT want to go to the hospital only to get sent home, so we compromised and she took me to get checked by my OB. That's where I found out I was having contractions every 4 minutes and I was dilated to 5cm. Oops. I guess I was in labor. He told me to go immediately to the hospital and not to stop for a burger first. (He knows me!) I actually went home first so I could see Athena off to Yia Yia's myself since I wasn't going to see her for a couple days. Then it was off to the hospital.

Have you noticed who I haven't updated?

Louis. He was FREAKING OUT. He had himself convinced I was passed out from labor pain on the kitchen floor and Athena was kicking me trying to wake me up.

Oops. He needs to be invited to the hospital too.

So Louis, my mom, and I all head to the hospital where I'm moving right along and feeling fine. They were going to let me deliver her vaginally up until she started compressing her cord and OH MY GOD WHY IS HER HEART RATE ONLY 65??? GET HER OUT NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!

I had to have another c-section. Ya know what? Oh well because here she is and that's all that matters!!

for about a year and a half. I have something against mp3 players, so I've never opened it. Well, since I don't really want to haul a boombox with me to the hospital, I figured this cute little thang might do the job for me quite well.

Given the fact that I don't know how to get music from the internets, I need help. Where do I go to download really uncool, old music?

I've always loved the "Bee Room" that I made for Athena. I was just going to stick Zofia in the Bee Room and call it a day. Well, I decided that the bees will always be Athena's thing and I will keep them just for her and move it all into her new big girl room.

Given all the drawing and stuff I did on the nursery walls for the bees, I wanted an easy transition.

Voila, I'm going to make a bunch of these, but in white:

They will be flying around function as the boarder on her walls.

Hopefully Zofia is going to like insects as much as Athena.

The time has come to start shopping for Zofia's arrival. Man, I'm so so so grateful that I don't have to buy any of the big stuff for her.

For some reason I'm having trouble making decisions on some of the smaller items.

Tell me, what are your favorites?

Bottles:

I can't use Avent because that's Athena's brand. Weening her from her nighttime bottle while Zofia is gleefully drinking away out of the same kind seems like more trouble than it's worth.

Soothie: And then use the Soothie pacifier, again, a different brand from Athena's.

Dr. Brown's: I know people say all the parts can be a pain, but my dishwasher has baskets and a sanitizing function. Couldn't I just use that?

Adiri: I mean, come on. They LOOK like a boob. That should help get Zofia to go along with this, right? Plus, they look NOTHING like Athena's beloveds.

Any pacifiers you highly recommend?

Also, did anyone forgo the infant car seat for the convertible ones? Would I regret not being able to move her in the seat and ALWAYS having to take her out?

I really DO NOT want to wear color. I feel like it would be too much on a girl of my, um, girth. Gray/charcoal may be as far as I'll go with that.

Can I wear pants with an embellished top? My only concern about the shorter dresses is what if I get elephant legs again?

I would like opinions/suggestions/etc. as I have been told on more than one occasion that I dress "weird."

I'm sitting here watching cartoons with Athena exhausted. She's been getting me up multiple times a night to tell me either she's thirsty, she needs to hug, or that she's a dinosaur.

I'm tired.

I've been HORRIFIED of having an anti-sleep toddler who sleeps with me and a newborn. Seriously, like panic attack, crying every day to my mom horrified.

All of a sudden I just pictured sitting here with Athena AND Zofia and I was hit with the overwhelming sense of calm. I've been waiting for this. Praying for this.

Now maybe I'll accept the fact that I CAN do this.

Embracing Co-Sleeping

I was not a co-sleeper. When my first baby was a newborn, I was terrified to smother him in his sleep. So I made sure he slept safely in a crib, without a blanket, stuffie or bumper pad anywhere near!
I didn’t get much sleep.
When he was nine months old, he learned to stand up – in his sleep – and would scream for me to nurse him back to sleep at 2am. I decided to try to train him to sleep through the night. For two months, I walked the floor every single night for two hours, refusing to give in. Finally it worked and he slept through the night. But then I went back to work and when he occasionally woke up I didn’t have it in me to fight him. I gave him a bottle and rocked him back to sleep. By eighteen months, he was finding his way into our bed every single night. And there he slept until he was four.But I never really considered myself a co-sleeper. My twin sister, on the other hand, is a true, hard-core, co-sleeper. They have a “family bed” – a king size mattress on the floor in case the little ones fall out. Both her girls sleep with them and she swears she doesn’t regret it for a minute. So when my daughter started to wake at nine months, my sister encouraged me to just co-sleep with her. “This is such a short time in her life. And co-sleeping is the greatest thing next to nursing. Trust me – just do it. You will all be so much happier.”
I decided to become a co-sleeper.
Since my son, who was then six, still liked to crawl into bed with us and we only had room for a queen sized bed, I had to find a different solution than all four of us in one bed. I put a twin mattress on the floor in my daughter’s room and she and I co-sleep there. Yes, it seems kind of crazy at times – I am sleeping on the floor in my daughter’s room and my son is taking my spot in my bed many nights. But you know what? I don’t mind a bit.In fact, I love co-sleeping with my daughter so much I don’t regret the decision at all. After a long day of work and household craziness, it is so nice to snuggle up and bond with her. It is no wonder our kids want to sleep next to us at night! It is such a stress reliever and such a comfort to feel each other’s presence, to breathe the same air.
Sure I wish we could fit a king size bed in our house where both of our kids could join us at night. But that isn’t an option for us. So for this short window of time in our children’s lives, we are making do with what we have. And I am refusing to apologize or feel like I failed by sleep sharing. No, I am embracing co-sleeping and enjoying every last second of it.
