I will never understand why so many people get so worked up over breastfeeding (on both sides). What ever happened to "to each their own"?

I breastfeed and luckily, my nurses (both times) immediately put my babies to my skin. They latched immediately and knew what to do. It was still HARD!!!!, but with support of other breastfeeders, I kept on and didn't give up.

It doesn't work for everyone and those mothers shouldn't be made to feel guilty....and moms who do breastfeed shouldn't be judged either as wasting employers time, etc. That's just ridiculous.

I tried to nurse Aubrey for days!! She just was not getting anything and I finally gave up when I started to bleed. It was an AWFUL experience and I cried because I felt that I was starving my baby for all those days. It was awful the first time and will probably never try it with my second child (if there is a #2). I'm glad that I have the choice of formula and it has some of the nutrition found in breast milk.

Athena had to get checked out immediately afterward because she pooped in the womb. Right after that, and while I was puking LIKE CRAZY, they had Louis hold her on me and try to nurse. He was crying because I was so sick and they were making him try to figure out how to get a newborn to nurse on another person. I'm not sure who was more freaked out. Probably Athena. "What the hell is with these people???"

Ok, I'm back.

1. First off, I agree that hospitals need to make initial skin-to-skin contact the first priority for new babies and mommies. It's muy importante. Baby. Skin. Stat. No 45-minute lag time.

2. Secondly, places of employment need to be far more accommodating for nursing/pumping mommies.

3. Breastfeeding in public needs to become more normal and more accepted.

(I could go on and on...)

That said, in an effort to not sound overwhelmingly militant I will stop now.

I read it... I read the comments....Breastfeeding for me was easy this time around and I am thankful for that. It IS free, without a doubt the BEST for your baby and an amazing bond is formed. Saying all those things....TO EACH THEIR OWN. Period.
